Preventive Dentistry for Cape May County
Cavities, gum disease, and even tooth loss can happen to anyone. We strive to prevent these issues from arising by instilling positive hygiene habits from a young age, but when problems strike, we’ll be there to restore your smile. As a general and family dental practice, we provide a full spectrum of dental treatments, including comprehensive exams, periodontal treatment, and replacement teeth options.
Dr. Maslow and team are well-known in the Cape May County area for the quality of dentistry they provide. If you have cracked, broken, or decayed teeth, we will provide you with modern solutions that look as great as they feel. Tooth-colored fillings, porcelain crowns, and dental implants are just a few of the modern general dentistry services we offer.
Prevention is the key to a healthy smile that lasts long-term. By educating our patients about the best methods of hygiene and tailoring dental products to their unique needs, we can often circumvent unnecessary dental pain and discomfort. At Diamond Beach Dental, we strive to give every patient the naturally beautiful smile he or she deserves.
Checkups & Cleanings
Dental checkups and teeth cleanings every six months are the key to keeping your smile whole and healthy for a lifetime. At Diamond Beach Dental, our thorough oral health exams are made up of three main components:
- Evaluation – we start by carefully examining every part of your smile, both the external and internal structures. This includes diagnostic x-rays and visual inspection. During this evaluation, we are screening for common oral health issues including tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ dysfunction, teeth grinding and clenching, and oral cancer.
- Professional cleanings – one of our skilled hygienists will carefully remove plaque and tartar buildup from every surface of your smile. Hygienists are also a great resource if you have a child who needs help improving their at-home hygiene technique, or you’d like recommendations for oral health products like toothbrushes or toothpastes.
- Consultation – before you leave, the dentist will take time to explain any areas for concern we uncovered during the initial evaluation and cleaning. We then take the time to walk through our recommendations to improve or maintain your maximum level of oral health.
Children's Dentistry
We welcome patients of all ages at Diamond Beach Dental, and we love having the opportunity to care for children’s smiles. Our top priority when it comes to working with kids is to create positive associations with the dentist that will last for a lifetime, and we encourage children to maintain great oral health practices. We’re able to provide a number of treatments specifically geared toward growing smiles, and all of our team members have years of experience working with young people.
Dental Sealants
As you might guess based on the name, dental sealants are used to seal out bacteria, plaque, and tartar that can build up on teeth causing decay or damage. We often recommend dental sealants for our younger patients who are still learning about oral hygiene, but adults who are prone to decay can also benefit from this quick, painless, preventive dentistry procedure. If we determine dental sealants are a good option for your smile, we can apply them during a regular checkup. We simply paint on a layer of liquid sealant and use a curing light to harden the coating. Once in place, dental sealants will protect teeth for several years with proper care. Sealants are completely invisible, so no one else will know you have them.
Gum Disease Therapy
Periodontal, gum, disease occurs when plaque and tartar buildup at the gum line irritates the soft tissue. Left untreated, gum disease, which starts as a mild issue, becomes more severe and can lead to the breakdown of soft tissue and diminished jawbone density. Eventually, teeth can shift out of socket or be lost. If you notice any of the warning signs of periodontal disease, let Dr. Maslow or one of his team members know right away. Common warning signs of gum disease include:
- Bleeding gums while brushing or flossing
- Swollen or inflamed soft tissue
- Itching or irritated gums
- Teeth that shift or a bite that does not fit together correctly
- Chronic bad breath
- Lost teeth
When caught early, we can typically reverse the damage of gum disease with more frequent teeth cleanings. In the more severe stages, we may need to offer advanced treatments including scaling or root planing.
Oral Cancer Screening
Due to the fact that it is frequently undiagnosed or misdiagnosed until the advanced stages, oral cancer is one of the deadliest forms of the disease. More than 50% of those patients diagnosed each year do not go on to survive more than five years beyond their initial diagnosis. For this reason, oral cancer screenings are an important aspect of every patient checkup at Diamond Beach Dental. Oral cancer screenings are quick and painless. You might not even notice it happened.

If you fall victim to a dental emergency, such as a broken or knocked-out tooth, time is of the essence. Nobody wants to face the world with a compromised smile, and severe tooth pain can make even the most mundane tasks seem impossible. Dr. Maslow and team understand your crisis and offer prompt emergency dental care. We even try to see dental emergencies on the same day!
A dental emergency may include:
